Course Description

​Wish you could use a computer to complete your schoolwork faster? Want to learn how to produce professional looking documents? Want to gain essential skills for working in today’s business and office environment?

​Business Communications is designed for any individual who wants to develop effective workplace communication skills. It is a desirable option for students interested in pursuing postsecondary studies in the business field and for future entrepreneurs. This course will focus on developing effective written, verbal, interpersonal and visual communication skills. With an emphasis on technology infusion, students will learn how to use current technologies to create communications that are clear, concise and designed for business.

  • File and folder management, file sharing, and cloud storage
  • ​Informal business communication (emails, text messages, social media, and online surveys)
  • Exploring forms of communication  
  • Creating formal business documents (letters, reports, meeting minutes, agendas, etc.)
  • Recognizing voice, tone, and etiquette for various business purposes (phone conversations, video conferencing, presentations, workshops, proposals, pitches, etc.)
  • Collect, create, and manipulate data using spreadsheet software
  • Analyze layout, and design techniques to create visual media (promotional material, infographics, branding, etc.)
