ELA: Comprehensive Focus Film Studies 30S (EFF30S)

Course Description

This course is designed for people who love films and TV/streaming series. Students will learn to perceive, understand, and evaluate films more effectively, leading to more profound appreciation and enjoyment of the art form. An emphasis will be placed on breaking down films by the contributions of the director, editor, screenwriter, and cinematographer. The course provides opportunities to explore and analyze a diverse range of films from around the world: old, new, popular, experimental, documentary, animation, and so on. Students will also explore and respond to a wide range of other texts. The Film Studies course will develop skills related to the six language arts: reading, writing, speaking, listening, viewing, and representing. Assignments will be designed to assess core outcomes of the English Language Arts Comprehensive Focus curriculum, and students will be awarded an English Comprehensive Focus 30S credit.

Students who wish to take this course should be allowed and willing to watch movies and TV/streaming series up to 14A by the Manitoba Film Classification Board.
