Course Description

This course covers the major components of Canadian law – beginning with the foundations of the rule of law. Cornerstone legislation in Canada, such as the Criminal Code and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and the basics of criminal law and civil law will be discussed, and students will have the opportunity to explore a law topic of their choice (ex: international law, contract law, human rights, YCJA, etc.). Students will have the opportunity to experience the justice system through discussions, mock trials, debates, guest lecturers, field trips and research/presentations. The course will give students an understanding of how they influence the law and how the law influences them.  ​
