English Language Arts 20F (ELA20F)
Course Description
Exploring various themes in literature, this one-semester course builds on the foundation begun in Grade 9 English. Students improve their reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing, and representing skills. Two major communication concepts are emphasized: an awareness of audience and the purpose of communication. Successful students develop skills in research and in the presentation of informed arguments, for an awareness of audience, purpose, context and form. They also become aware of the social implications of language and literature. This course sets high expectations and provides learners with a strong literacy foundation prior to moving into the Comprehensive and Literary Focus courses in Grades 11 and 12.
